Rhino EQ-300 Flow is Rated at 7 GPM

The EQ-300 Rhino filter is rated at 7 gallons per minute. This flow rate is adequate for homes with up to three bathrooms.

If you home has more than 3 bathrooms, two EQ-300 filters can be installed in a manifold configuration (PDF, 68KB) for a higher flow rate.

The Aquasana EQ-300 whole house filter is a great value, even when two are installed for your larger home.
EQ-300 Rhino Filter for Iron & Manganese

The Aquasana EQ-300 filter can remove iron and manganese, provided the levels are less than 1 PPM.

With higher levels of iron and/or manganese, the Aquasana EQ-300IP™ Iron and Sulfur pre filter is recommended.

EQ-300 Rhino Filter for Sulfur (Rotten Egg Smell)

The Rhino EQ-300 filter can also eliminate sulfur or rotten egg smell from your hot water.

If your water has a sulfur/rotten egg smell in the hot and cold water, the Aquasana EQ-300IP Iron and Sulfur pre filter is recommended.

Aquasana EQ-300 Filter Includes 3 Stages

-The Aquasana EQ-300 Rhino home water filter provides 3-stage filtration for all the water in your home:

-Rhino EQ-300 3 Stage Filter

1: Mechanically filters sediment as small as 5 microns. This stage removes sediment to extend the life of the main filter. The sediment filter cartridge is low cost, easily monitored via the clear filter housing, and simple to replace yourself (no plumber needed).

2: Uses KDF-55 ® to transform chlorine to harmless chlorides. This stage also reduces surface tension and hardness of the water for great feeling baths and showers. The water flows upward in this stage to insure exposure to all sides of the KDF granules.

3: Includes high-grade 12/40 mesh activated carbon to enhance water quality, clarity and taste. Activated carbon is recognized by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency as the "Best available technology for the reduction of synthetic chemicals." The water flows downward through this stage to compress the carbon and provide better contact between the carbon and water.

Some whole house filters include multiple stages of filtration in a single, standard size (10" or 20") cartridge. In many cases, there is simply not enough filtration media to adequately filter the water flow at the peek rates used in a typical home.

Other filters include many stages in a larger design, however many of the "stages" are simply another "layer" of the same filtration media.

Always look for independent certifications of the entire system to prove performance claims.

Underwriters Laboratories  Certification

Rhino EQ-300 Whole House Water Filter is Certified by Underwriters Laboratories to ANSI/NSF standard 42 with class 1 performance for 300,000 gallons.

This means the EQ-300 filters chlorine, bad tastes, odors and sediment for 300,000 gallons.
The Rhino EQ-300 is Certified by Underwriters Laboratories.

In fact, chlorine levels in the filtered water were not detectable for the duration of the test. You can look at the performance data sheet below to verify that there was no increase in chlorine levels output by the EQ-300, even as the system reached 300,000 gallons filtered.

Given the design of the EQ-300, Volatile Organic Chemicals (VOCs) and Synthetic Organic Chemicals (SOCs) will also be greatly reduced.

Only chlorine removal is tested because that is the ANSI/NSF standard and the cost of testing for filtration of many chemicals for 300,000 gallons is prohibitively expensive.

The Underwriters Laboratories (UL) certification is the most difficult water filtration certification to attain.

Instead of just running a one-time test, UL subjects Aquasana to rigorous quality control and regular inspections to insure that the Rhino EQ-300 you buy today is as good as the one which was tested in their labs.

To avoid the expense of testing, many manufacturers claim "certified components" for their whole house water filters. This only means that the carbon, KDF and other components used in the system were individually certified.

"Certified components" on a non-standardized filtration system proves nothing about system design such as adequate amount of the filtration media, proper water flow through the media, proper sequencing of the stages, etc.

Watch out for this trick on low cost competitive whole house water filters. Don't buy an unproven imitation.

Rhino EQ-300 Whole House Filter Installation

The EQ-300 whole house filter must be installed by a plumber licensed by your state or local authority to validate your warranty.

Installation can typically be done in 1.5 to 2.5 hours. Additional time may be required depending on the location of your service line and other factors.

Important EQ-300 installation considerations:

Operating pressure range is 20psi to 100psi (1.4 bar to 6.0 bar)
Operating temperature range is 40°F - 100°F (4°C - 38°C)
Rated service flow is 7 gallons per minute (26.25 liters per minute)
Service life is 300,000 gallons (1,136,000 liters) or 3 years
The EQ-300 must be installed in an upright position (as shown in pictures)
The EQ-300 must be protected from direct sunlight exposure
Install on cold water lines only (i.e., before the hot water heater)
The EQ-300 is not intended for water that is microbiologically unsafe or of unknown quality without adequate disinfection before or after the filter

Easy Maintenance: Changing the Pre-Filter

The EQ-304 sediment pre-filter cartridge should be replaced every 1-3 months, depending on the condition of the water source.
The Sediment Pre-Filter extends life of the main filter and is easily inspected and replaced.

You can easily monitor the pre-filter via the see-through housing to determine if your water requires more frequent pre-filter cartridge changes.

To replace the EQ-304 sediment pre-filter cartridge:

Close the orange shut off valve
Relieve pressure in the water system by opening a faucet near the unit
Place a bucket under the sediment pre-filter housing
Press the pressure release button on top of the pre-filter housing to relieve any remaining water pressure
Unscrew the sediment pre-filter housing
Remove the old filter cartridge
Wash out the sediment pre-filter housing as needed to remove sediment
Clean the housing o-ring and lubricate it with petroleum jelly
Insert the new filter cartridge into the housing
Screw the sediment pre-filter housing back on
Slowly open the orange shut off valve and check for leaks
In case of leaks, tighten connections or clean and reseat the o-ring

Easy Maintenance: Changing the Main Filter

The EQ-300R main filter replacement can be installed without a licensed plumber.

The unions supplied in the installation kit make it easy to uncouple the EQ-300 main filter from the water supply line and insert the EQ-300R.

The replacement main filter must be flushed following the instructions supplied before installation.

Overall, it's a fairly easy job for a handy home owner, plus it only needs to be done every three years or 300,000 gallons.
